Chicopee Night Riding Policy and Schedule – 2009/2010
The Chicopee Woods Area Park Commisssion has agreed to allow night riding at the Chicopee Woods MTB trails during the Fall and Winter seasons during sanctioned group rides. In order to keep this privilege all night ride participants must abide by the following rules.
Meet at the MTB parking lot at 6:30 PM, ready to ride at 6:45 PM and we must ride in a group with a designated leader and sweep. Please arrive early because the main Elachee Nature Center gate automatically closes at 6:30 and no one will be allowed in the park after that. All riders must be current SORBA members – SORBA membership forms will be available at each night ride. A fee of $5.00 will be collected from each rider to help pay for the Security Guard.
NOTE: Night riding at Chicopee is only allowed during sanctioned group rides. Anyone caught riding at Chicopee after dark is in violation of Gainesville City laws and also puts sanctioned night rides in jeopardy for the rest of us.
Night Ride Schedule: We will have two rides a month scheduled during standard time. All rides are on Thursdays.
November 5th and 19th, 2009
December 3th and 17th, 2009
January 7th and 21st, 2010
February 4th and 18th, 2010
March 4th , 2010
These dates are subject to change pending weather and trail conditions so check the Gainesville SORBA Forum to confirm dates before the ride.

Why does one need to be a SORBA member to particpate in the night ride? I understand the $5 donation to from each rider to cover for the guard, but the requirement of each rider to join SORBA seems a bit absurd.

Nathan – The land manager (Chicopee Woods Park Commission) requires that all riders participating in a night ride at Chicopee be SORBA members due to the insurance coverage that is provided with membership.
