Chicopee Trail Construction: Advanced Trails

Many of you have been very concerned about the new trail construction at Chicopee Woods. While the majority of riders are anticipating the additional mileage and are excited about the current layout, the new trail hasn’t brought the advanced layout we’d hoped. Recently, the GainesvilleSORBA officers met with SORBA and SORBA Pro Trails to discuss these concerns and try to get the project and prospect of an advanced trail back on track. We’ve outlined to the results of that meeting and the direction we plan to take to bring this advanced trail to Chicopee!

The SilverComet Aftermath

Saturday March 29th Scott,Connie,Wendy, Joe, Chris,Tina, and Barry made the 75 mile ride from Marrietta to Rockmart. Connie was sporting her new Trek. SO SWEET! There we had a great parmesian tilapia lunch at Frankie’s Italian restaurant which is a totally cycle-friendly establishment complete with bike racks, sport drinks, and cycling pictures. On the way back at around 60 miles the rain came down hard. We sought cover under some bridges until the lightning subsided and then pressed on towards the prize…..a warm and dry car. We were able to maintain a 15 mph avg. even in the rain. We had a great ride and felt it was excellent training for upcoming races and charity rides.

Work Party & Bear Creek Aftermath

Just wanted to give a Big Shout-out of THANKS to ‘Fast Norma’ Rainwater and Sorella Cycling for the great turn-out on the Oct. 13th Trail Work Party at Chicopee Woods. We’ve finished 75% of the Beginner Trail and it looks great! It is really fast and flowing ,no matter what your skill level.A Big Thanks also to Frank w/ Chic-fil-A and Gainesville SORBA for the lunch for all the workers. I got to meet and work beside one of my heroes,Linda Demma a fellow Type 1 diabetic of Race Across America fame. She is nursing a broken collar bone from a road crash, so we have that in common also. Then many of us enjoyed the rest of the afternoon on our bikes.

We had a wonderful time riding Bear Creek and Pinhoti in Ellijay. The leaves weren’t in full color yet but none of us were complaining. The weather couldn’t have been nicer. We met two other groups and had an impromptu picnic. It rained the day before so the trail wasn’t dusty for a welcome change. Good Trail, Good Company, Good Food. Can’t wait ’till the next one! Pic’s of both of these events can be viewed @www.dropshots.com/nrainwater
