Gainesville State College Trails are CLOSED !!!

There will be 10-15-20 mile options.  Included in the 20 mile option is a visit to the historic Chenocetah Fire Tower.  This is a 40 foot tall stone tower built in 1936.  It sits high atop a ridge overlooking Lake Russell.  If you are not out of breath by the time you ride up the trail, the view from the top will take what is left.  This ride is about 50/50 with fire roads and trail.

Meet at the YMCA parking lot on GA 365 one intersection north (~ 1 mile) of Jesse Jewel Parkway at 9:30a.m. to carpool or at the trailhead RTR 10:30a.m.

Directions to trailhead at Nancytown Lake parking lot:
From Gainesville, travel north on GA 365 about 15-20 miles.  Exit at GA Hwy 197/Clarkesville.  Turn right (east).  Travel about 6 miles to dead end.  Turn right (south) toward Mt. Airy.  Travel 1 mile or so and turn left on Lake Russell Road.  There is a local gas station store on the right across from this turn.  Drive downhill about 1 mile and turn left toward Nancytown Lake.  Park on the right at the parking lot overlooking the dam.  RTR 10:30a.m.

We had a good turnout despite the cold weather and collected well over 200 items and $25 that were donated to the Georgia Mountain Food Bank.

Charge up your lights – It’s night riding season!  Night rides start up Thursday, November 5th, 2009 at Chicopee Woods MTB trails!  We’ll meet at the main MTB trail parking lot at 6:30 PM sharp.

Please Note: Night riding at Chicopee is only allowed during sanctioned group rides. Anyone caught riding at Chicopee after dark is in violation of Gainesville City laws and also puts sanctioned night rides in jeopardy for the rest of us.

Just a quick word of thanks to everyone who volunteered to make the Thursday Night Time Trial Series possible this year.  First and foremost, the Johnston family: Steve, Norma, Robi, and Erika.  Without them, the TNT wouldn’t have happened, or at the very least been more difficult to host. 

Also, thanks to Norma Rainwater and Joy Bolt for running registration and membership- again, without them, it wouldn’t have been possible.  Thanks to Brad Burney and Tom Willis for helping with the timing.  And the evenings wouldn’t have been as fun without some ambiance, which was provided by Joe Polk.  Of course, no one would have known the event was happening if it hadn’t been for the beautiful flyer created by Don Bolt.

There were so many others helping, and we appreciate you all.  Thanks to everyone who came out and participated.  Thanks for being SORBA members, and for helping to support the local chapter and the trails at Chicopee.
